The aim for Alfa Romeo was to return to the form it showed early in 2022 following a difficult end to that year. However, in July of 2023 Bottas said “we’re not meeting the targets we’ve set ourselves” after starting the year slower than hoped with developments doing little to improve the C43. It resulted in Bottas scoring just five points before the summer break, which was only one more than team-mate Zhou Guanyu. The situation did not improve in the second half either as Alfa Romeo struggled to out-develop its rivals, with Bottas only scoring another five points after the summer break.  

Alfa Romeo finished the season next to bottom in the championship in a forgettable year for Bottas, who had his lowest points-scoring season since 2013 -  the Finn’s rookie campaign.
