• The name "Bobcat" was coined by Jim Wangers, an advertising executive for the Pontiac® ad agency McManus, John & Adams in the late 1950s.
• Jim Wangers set up a meeting at Royal Oak Pontiac® to pitch Bunkie Knudsens's idea of promoting over-the-counter high-performance Pontiac parts directly to customers. Ace Wilson, owner of Royal Pontiac, enthusiastically agreed.
