29417W ERTL - Packer Pontiac Catalina Race Car. 1:18 scale diecast collectible model car. This Pontiac Catalina is a 12"L x 4.25"W x 3"H die cast metal car with openable doors, hood & trunk, detailed engine, painted in authentic colors, steerable front wheels, and chrome wheels. Limited edition 1 OF 1500 pcs, "Commemorative Series". Pontiac seventy fifth anniversary. Sits on a display stand. This Packer Pontiac Catalina racing car is manufactured by RC2 Brands. 29417 is in WHITE color. Individually packed in a window box. Box measures 13.75"L x 6.25"W x 5.75"H. In 1961 Pontiac built several cars known as SUPER DUTY cars without radios, heaters, sound deadener, undercoating, radio or power accessories. These body in white cars were shipped to various dealers with 4 speed transmissions and 348 horsepower engines. However in the trunks were various add-on "super-parts" including high list camshafts, special head, an aluminum three carburetor intake manifold,and NASCAR crankshaft & rods. This car was campaigned in 1961 and all of 1962 culminating with it being runner up in Super Stock Class at the Indianapolis Summer Nationals in 1962.

 

"Packer Pontiac" had a 389 engine, three two barrel carburetors and four-speed transmission. The car was tested with several rear end and transmission combinations. The best result was with a 4.30 posi-traction rear end and 3 speed heavy duty transmission. "Packer Pontiac" competed in NHRA's toughest division, racing against factory supported teams from Detroit including the Ramchargers, Golden Commandos and various Ford and Chevrolet teams.

 

The '61 "Packer Pontiac" had run consistent 110 MPH's at a beast of 12.93 seconds on the quarter mile at various tracks in the mid-west. A recreation of this famous Pontiac is being done by owner John O' Hare, Valencia, CA. with the technical advice of Stan Antlocer, one of the original overs of the car. "Packer Pontiac" will be campaigned across the country at drag strips and car shows.
