With 53 career wins, Don White, one of the legendary "Keokuk Komets", is the winningest stock car driver in the history of USAC (United States Auto Club.) His closest competitor is A.J. Foyt, 2nd with 41 wins. In the 1960's and early 1970's USAC, along with NASCAR, was one of the two premier stock car racing sanctioning bodies in America. During this ear, its sister division, USAC's Indy Car Championship was the benchmark for all of American racing, with many of its Indianapolis 500 stars leaving their open-wheel rides periodically to race stockers.

In 1966, Ray Nichels hired Don White to be a full time driver for Nichels Engineering racing primarily in USAC. For the five year period that Nichels and White were a team, they competed in 101 USAC races; winning 36 times, gaining 68 Top-Five finishes, 74 Top-Ten finishes and winning 29 Poles. The Nichels Engineering/Don White Team amassed 14,742 points and won pursed totaling $186,846 during this time. included in this fantastic run was a National Stock Car Championship in 1967. (White's 2nd USAC championship)

In late 1969, White was provided with a Hemi-powered 1969 Dodge Daytona Charger, built at Nichels Engineering's "Go-Fast Factory" in Griffith, Indiana. This "Winged Warrior" was a perennial front runner owing its strength to a powerful Chrysler Hemi constructed and blueprinted by famed Nichels engine builder Minnie Joyce. Chassis construction was just as stellar under the skilled hand of Nichels Engineering ccraftsmen Jerry Govert and Jim Delaney.

During the 1970 season, White and Nichels Engineering did what they did best; racing up front with the leaders. When the season's results were tallied, White had raced 19 times winning 4 races, 2 Poles, along with 9 Top-Five finishes and 11 Top-Ten finishes. Nichels and White earned 2,506 championship points and purses totaling $37,567. This Nichels Engineering Team also set 4 track records.
