Joie Chitwood Thrill Show
George "JOIE" Chitwood built his first race car in 1934 when he was working in a welding shop in Topeka, Kansas after working as a shoe shiner and candy butcher. The cars was for a customer, but when its regular driver didn't show up, the pwner asked Joie if he wanted to try driving. Thus, his long and illustratious racing career began. In 1942, he had the oportunity to buy enough ramps and cars to start his own auto thrill show, which he dubbed The Joie Chitwood "Hell Drivers" The "Hell Drivers" toured across America performing death-defying stunts for small and large crowds alike the show was so successful that Joie pulled back significantly on his racing to focus on the show, and when he retired, he handed off his legacy to his son, Joei Jr. who continued to run the show for many years after his father's retirement.
