God and the Art of Toy and Diecast Marketing
There is Nothing Like the Sun
By Lu Su
Last week I spoke about the first step one should take in order to increase one's chance of receiving a blessing. The first step is to know where NOT to place your ultimate trust. The second step is a more difficult one. Know where to place your ultimate trust. I'm defining your "ultimate trust" as your life, your talent, your time, and your entire estate. David, the shepherd boy, the musician, the soldier, the king, and man whom God described as "a man after his own heart", makes it really easy for us. He blatantly gives us the answer in the scriptures. Trust God.
Such a simple sentence. What a wonderful goal. Such great advice. Easy for God's children to accept, but very difficult to follow through on. And for the non-theist the advice to "Trust God" will seem silly; You want me to trust in something that does not exists? For those that have this perspective, before dismissing this as pure rubbish, please hang on for a minute. Let's just take God out of the picture for right now and allow me to pose the question in another way. Wouldn't it be better to put your ultimate trust on something very real, non-material (not measureable), totally reliable, constant (not fickle and does not change), and absolute at the same time? If you are going to bet your life on something, wouldn't it be best to bet on a sure thing? If we are eternal creatures and you were betting eternity on it, wouldn't it be better to place your bet on a sure thing? Why bet on people? Why bet on property? (Both are usually not FDIC insured and can lose value.)
Before speaking more on blessing and how to better position yourself for one, I want to circle back and see if I could round up some stragglers before continuing on. Spiritual concepts like "righteousness" and "blessing" are fine and well, for they make perfect sense for those who believe and love God. But for those that do not, the inability to anchor spiritual concepts to some absolute (God) is going to result in meaninglessness. It is not my desire to take anyone on a meaningless journey.
I find very interesting is that many atheists (persons that do not believe in god) and agnostics (persons that do not know if there is a god) will often use logical arguments and sound reasoning to convey why they have taken such a position. Usually you do not have to probe too deeply to find that a great majoirty will just say t that they have not been presented with a sufficient amount of evidence to convince them of God's exisistence. I think this is a very reasonable statement. I respect and can accept such a decision. So using the tools of observation, logic and reason, many have come to the conclusion that God either does not exist or that they do not know if he exists or not. I definately can work with people that use the same tools I use.
I assert that God is very real, non-material, totally reliable, constant and absolute. The non-theist (agnostics and atheists) will then probably ask me to prove such a statement is true. Again, a reasonable request. If someone makes a statement that there is a pink elephant in the next room, it's reasonable to ask, "Can you prove it? or "Can you show me?" (Especially if you just cleaned the carpets and bought a new couch). But let me ask you this. If I or anybody is unable to prove to you that God exists, does that mean God does not exist? Is that the default setting you have set up correct? Please realize that the same tools that you employ (i.e. observation, logic, reason) that allows you take a non-theist position, are the same tools that show me that you DO have the ability to believe in God. I'll make you a deal. If I can show you that you also exhibit an enormous amount of faith in something very real, non-material, totally reliable, constant and absolute, would you also consider changing your default setting when it comes to the existence of God?
The laws of logic exhibit the same qualities of God. That's a really profound statement. Let me say it again. The laws of logic exhibit the same qualities of God (i.e. very real, non-material, totally reliable, constant and absolute). So let's put the ball in your court. Can you show me logic? Can you prove to me that logic exists? If you are unable provide sufficient evidence to convince me that logic exists, is it reasonable for me to conclude that logic does not exist? The existence of logic needs to be the default setting; without this in place, nothing would make sense. On the same token, the existence of God needs to be the default setting; without this in place, life becomes meaningless. This reminds me of a great quote.
"God is like the sun; you cannot look at it, but without it, you cannot look at anything else."
-G.K. Chesterton
