Something is Awry with the Timeline (Conclusion)
By L. S. Su

The above timeline is being taught
in schools today. The above timeline has been taught for so
long, that many people have accepted the above timeline is fact
rather than a theory. It has gotten to the point if a dinosaur
bone is unearthed and they can figure what type of dinosaur
it was, they then consult the above timeline (without any type
of radiometric dating performed on the bones). However, the
above timeline is being challenged today with a fairly recent
find: Not all dinosaur bones are fully petrified.
Dr. Mary Schweitzer, associate
professor of marine, earth, and atmospheric sciences at North
Carolina State University, surprised scientists in 2005 when
she reported finding soft tissue (collagen) in dinosaur bones.
She started a firestorm of controversy in 2007 and 2008 when
she reported that she had sequenced proteins in the dinosaur
bone. The presence of collagen in bones means there are still
carbon 14 atoms (a radioactive isotope) present.
Based on the relatively short half
life of carbon-14, Scientist had previously thought that all
carbon-14 atoms would have departed the bone after 100,000 years.
This has now proven to no longer be the case and you can now
attempt to measure the age of bones themselves via carbon 14
dating, rather the soil samples near the bones by a less accurate
radiometric dating method with longer half lives (e.g. Potassium-argon,
Uranium-lead, Rubidium-strontium).
Dr. Schwitzer is not the only scientist
that has found tissue inside dinosaur bones that have not fully
fossilized, but other scientists have also found dinosaur bones
with measurable amounts of carbon inside the bone. But when
their findings do not match the above timeline, their findings
are currently being dismissed as "obviously wrong"
by those who hold high positions in the scientific publication
community. This new discovery in the 21st century is going to
cause objective scientists to review all the assumptions that
were made in the construction of the timeline. I believe that
it is a matter of time before objective scientists accept that
the above time line is inaccurate, because at this point scientists
would either need prove that collagen is not being found inside
dinosaur bones or that carbon 14 radiometric dating is no longer
a valid dating method.
So does the Bible provide enough
information for us to construct a timeline? Let's go over the
Biblical account on how life on Earth came about. However, before
doing so, I want to bring out the point that what academia teaches
compared to what the Bible teaches is fundamentally different.
So from the get-go, it is not possible to say both are correct.
One school of thought is that life
evolved. The other school of thought is that life was created.
The later requires intelligence, skill and artistic passion;
and thus it requires a Creator. The act of evolving does not
require a creator, because Evolutionists believe that life will
"find a way" and moves towards a higher and higher
level of complexity on its own; and thus no intelligent designer
with supernatural powers to overcome the 2nd law of thermodynamics
(entropy) is required to make life happen.
From my perspective, if there was
no Creator, then it is far more likely for nature to produce
the object on the left than on the right. If you have difficulties
believing that nature can make the object on the left, I would
think you should have greater difficulty in believing the nature
could produce the four men on the right.
Academia and the Bible don't disagree
on everything. Both support that some time in the past, there
was a very large flood on Earth. Both are in agreement that
land animals came before man, but the timeline continues to
be debated. As already mentioned, academia is currently advocating
a 75 million year gap between dinosaur and man. The Bible advocates
a much shorter gap from the time God created land animals and
man; dinosaurs would be lumped into the category of land animals.
The Bible is very specific and states that God created both
land animals and man on the 6th day.
And
God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according
to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along
the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.”
And it was so. God made the wild animals according to their
kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the
creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds.
And God saw that it was good.
Then
God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our
likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and
the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild
animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
So
God created mankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
God
blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase
in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish
in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living
creature that moves on the ground.”
Then
God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the
face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with
seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts
of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures
that move along the ground—everything that has the breath
of life in it—I give every green plant for food.”
And it was so.
God
saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there
was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.
-Genesis
1: 24 -27
Just a quick sidebar here. The
3rd paragraph set into place a foundation, which our country's
forefathers built upon it and came up with the the principal
that "All men are created equal." If you remove the
above foundation, which dictators like to do, then the principal
collapses. Then the principal of might makes right usually floods
in to fill the vacuum. In the late 20th and early 21st century,
there has been a big effort to remove all references of God
from our schools, court systems, airways, and even lawns of
town governments. If the 3rd paragraph above is not true, then
what is the basis for the principal that all men are created
equal? Evolution gives you equal rights?
I think in general most people
desire to believe what teachers teach us is true; I also that
most people who believe in God desire to believe the Bible is
true too. But the timeline that is being purported from academia
and the Bible cannot both be true unless you reinterpret at
least one of them. So what I think happens is that many people
take the path of least resistance is to reinterpret the Biblical
text and turn the "day" in Genesis into several millions
of years. However, from my reading and comprehension of the
Bible, interpreting the 6 days of creation in Genesis to millions
of years is problematic for several reasons:
-
The writer of Genesis, gives
us a big clue on what he meant by "day" by describing
what was not a day. Let me explain. When you read all the cool
stuff that was created in six (6) days, after each day's worth
a work, this phrase immediately appears "And there was
evening and then morning -the __th day." This phrase doesn't
appear just once, but appears six (6) separate times. So if
you try to reinterpret "day", then you also need to
reinterpret evening and morning.
A person that I have great respect for interprets the creation
story as a song. I think that's a perfectly fine interpretation;
but whether the creation story is an account or a song, the
words to the chorus is still accurate correct? The writer isn't
introducing something that is flat out wrong correct? So one
problem in reinterpreting the "day" in genesis to
millions of years, then it requires you to also reinterpret
the length of time on how long and "evening" and "morning"
took.
-
When you read the creation account
in Genesis or from the Torah, we see that God (Elohim) created
plants on the 3rd day, birds and sea creatures on the 5th day,
and animals and man on the 6th day. I think what happens to
many people is that it is almost incomprehensible that so much
life can be create in such a short period of time. Especially
when people are accustomed to seeing how long tree take to grow
or how long an animal takes to go from a baby to adult; it's
less mind boggling to accept evolutionary timeline and reinterpret
"day" to millions of years. But as a reminder, if
you are outside time, you have all the time you need. Remember
the movie Ferris Bueler's Day off? All the events of that story
took place in a single day. But since the creator isn't bound
by his creation, the writer has ample time to create all the
contents used in that single day.
God is outside time and space. If God is outside these dimensions,
he's not subject to time and space constraints like things in
the creation are. God thus has an infinite amount of time to
create a mature forest and can take less than a second (in our
time). Jesus, whom Christians believe is God, healed different
lame men; and they got up and walked immediately -not after
6 months of PT. Moreover, the opening sentence of the Bible
tells us God is outside of time and space. "In the beginning,
God created the heavens and the earth." We use the heavens
to mark time. We have the Earth to understand three dimensional
space.
-
The word "day" in Genesis
or "yom" in the Torah is NOT used in a way to suggest
a long period of time (e.g. "in the day" of the dinosaur,
or "during the day" when Ronald Regan was President).
When you simply read the text, there is nothing the way it is
written to suggest that day should be interpreted as long eras
or millions of years. There is also no precedence in any other
piece of literature to interpret the word "day" "morning"
and "evening" as several millions or billions of years.
-
For me, the strongest argument
that prevents me from reinterpreting what the Bible means by
a day, evening, and morning is the fact that the genealogy records
from Adam to Jesus are provided. Matthew
1: 1-17, gives us the genealogy from Abraham (the forefather
of Jews, Muslims, and Christians) to Jesus. In Luke
3: 23-38 the historian records the genealogy from Adam to
Jesus.
Now what is interesting is the Bible tells us how long our earliest
Patriarch lived:
1 Adam 930 years.....Genesis 5:4
2 Seth 912 years.......Genesis 5:8
3 Enosh 905 years....Genesis 5:11
4 Cainan 910 years.......Genesis 5:14
5 Mahalalel 895 years.......Genesis 5:17
6 Jared 962 years.......Genesis 5:20
7 Enoch 365 years.......(translated) Genesis 5:23
8 Methuselah 969 years.......Genesis 5:27
9 Lamech 777 years.......Genesis 5:31
10 Noah 950 years.......Genesis 9:29
When you construct the timeline based on what is presented by
the Bible, you certainly don't get a timeline of millions of
years. You get one that tells you that the creation of all organic
life occurred less than 7000 years ago.

What about all the evidence that
the Earth is "exceedingly old"? The Bible doesn't
say that rocks and soil cannot be millions of years old. Read
the first five verses of the Bible:
In the beginning God created
the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and
empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the
Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said,
“Let there be light,” and there was light. God
saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from
the darkness. God called the light “day,” and
the darkness he called “night.” And there was
evening, and there was morning—the first day.
After God created the heavens and
the earth, we are NOT told how much time had passed from that
time He created a ton of stuff in six (6) days. . So from my
perspective the Earth can be exceedingly old (millions or billions
of years), but not man.
