God and the Art of Toy and Diecast Marketing
God Revealed through Prophecy (part 4 of 4)
By Lu Su
If you have been with me on this journey, you have been presented with evidence that someone out there is capable of knowing the future. In the prophecy given in Ezekiel, it is apparent to me that God knew exactly what would occur before it occurred. Written in the book of Ezekiel are very unlikely set of events with very specific details on what Tyre and its inhabitants would experience. God knew that the proud city would end up at the bottom of the sea. God also knew the gruesome details on the fate of the inhabitants of Tyre, even before Alexander the Great was born.
For the theist, the fulfillment of prophecy makes sense because we know that God created time and thus he is not bound by time. So the future cannot be an unknown to God. But for those that think there is no God, then the Tyre prophecy should have introduced a contradiction in their minds. I believe most non-theist will resolve the contradiction in one of three ways: 1) Don't think about it (perhaps immersing themselves in watching Benny Hill or Mash re-runs). 2) Suppress the evidence (my mind is made up, so don't confuse me with the facts). or 3) Claim that the prophecy was constructed or embellished after the event had occurred (I think it would be quite challenging to find a theistic or non-theistic historian to back up that claim).
Many of us have a very powerful tool in our possession, but just don't realize its power. I guess in car talk language, you would say: We've got a Corvette engine under the hood, but in a world of 55 mph speed limits, that potential power is seldom realized. God has given us a very powerful tool to allow us to understand that he exists and to know what is character is like.God certainly didn't have to reveal either of the two; but he grant us this tool. What God gives us (mankind) can be seen at the very end of this video clip.
This clip actually sizes nicely into our journey because it actually touches on many deep philosophical questions. If you have been around as long as I have, you've seen this movie before and you will instantly recognize these two great actors. I just want to interject that I do NOT agree with all the snappy answers provided by one of the main characters. But the main point of the clip is that I want you to focus on is what God gives man in order to help man continue on his journey. It's found at the very end of the clip.
Parental Guidance is advised, because there is some partial nudity in the movie clip that may not be appropriate for young children. This is actually a marketing ploy to get more men to watch it. So watch and focus on the gift that God presents man at the very end.

Whenever we engage in transactions of great significance, we basically want a receipt. And we want this receipt in writing. When you purchase a car or a house, you want a written document -a title or a deed. After you invest a small fortune in college, every student hopes to obtain a diploma. Notice that the diploma is in writing. Wouldn't it save time and money if the University just distributed the diplomas verbally? Why do we want it in writing? Why isn't a verbal from a well respected dean good enough? Some how the process of taking verbal words and transferring it to written word, helps cements the transaction (the Deal).
So if an old guy walked up to you and told you he was God, you would be skeptical. You would want some evidence. What type of evidence would you ask for? You would probably either ask to see a miracle or you would ask for an accurate prediction for something in the near future. So there seems to be only one of two things you could ask for (i.e. a miracle or an accurate prediction). But the problem I see with the first request is that our eyes can deceive us. Also, I do not see that miracles alone generate belief (faith) in God. And like George said, "They're too flashy and upset the natural balance of things".
God has reveals himself by by accurately predicting the future and he put it down in writing. The prophecy found in Ezekiel is only one of many found in the Bible. In the movie George Burns (playing God) gives John Denver (who plays an assistant grocery store manager) provides written evidence that he exists. He gives him a business card with GOD printed on it (no address, no phone number).
But on a much deeper level, God has presented us with much evidence; he's even given it to us in writing (i.e. the ten commandments, the prophecies, the Bible). Like Abraham said in the parable, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead (see a miracle)."
