God and the Art of Toy and Diecast Marketing
Purpose

The last article I had suggested that it would be healthy for us to occasionally pause, reflect and make some adjustments in our lives. So let’s take a quick pause here and ask how are we doing on this journey? You know the roller coaster ride called life? In the US, the average male life expectancy is 75 years and the average female life expectancy is 81 years. From meeting many of you, I think it would be an accurate statement to say that over half our lives (here on Earth) has expired. If our lives were compared to candles, many of us would be looking pretty stubby right now. Want to venture a guess on how many more Autumns you will see? Hopefully by now, you’re on course with both your physical and spiritual journey. If you’re not, I suggest you stop and ask for directions. (Apparently doing it your way doesn’t seem to be getting you there.)

One new moon ago, I tried to prove that humans could NOT have come about from the result of time + matter + chance. Knowing that words can be misconstrued (like you look really cool), I tried to show you with numbers (and a monkey) that it is too improbable for DNA to randomly come into existence. I would even conclude that it would take a sheer act of faith to believe that human DNA could randomly come into existence. And even if we could get to the state of having human DNA, there is still a huge chasm to leap over in order to get from DNA to a living and breathing intelligent person. Even right now, the small step to go from amino acids to proteins (without DNA) has not been crossed.

May I suggest the next time you clip some of your nails, to save a few pieces; I have a homework assignment for you. The project is to create a human from a few fingernail clippings. I hope you realize that I’m being very generous and giving you an unbelievable huge head start by letting you start with some human DNA (your fingernail clippings). Now from these clippings, I want you to produce a living breathing intelligent person. If you could make this person sentient too (because I do not think every one is), I’ll give you extra credit. Bring him to my office when you are done (I’ll even pay the airfare for both of you). I also need to remind you that for this particular homework assignment, you are not allowed to use any intelligence in getting this accomplished. After all, most of the “science” we have been taught in school does not have this variable called intelligence in their equations or theories on life.

Note that cinder block, a basic building block for buildings, took intelligence to create; note the symmetry and the uniformity of material. The DNA strand on the other hand took no intelligence to build and came about naturally or accidentally? A cinder block is pretty simple and plain looking. But as simple and as plain looking as it is, I find it very unlikely that nature could produce one of these babies (no matter how much time you want to give it). Isn't it more likely that nature could more likely produce the object on the right than on the left?

At this time, a 3.16GHz Quad-Core Intel®  Xeon®  Processor is the current processor speed available for PCs (I had to put that in so future generations of people reading this article could marvel on how slow our computers were way back in 2008). Anyway, ask any scientist which has a greater level of complexity, the Intel Processor or a single strand of human DNA? Which holds more information? Which is larger in size? If you don't have a scientific mind, look at it this way: Objects that are created, tend to be created for functionality, beauty, or both (maybe with the exeption of mosquitoes; I don't find them beautiful so what function do they serve?).

But don't just take my word on it. Although he didn’t have a typewriter back then, there was this brilliant politician, lawyer, orator and philosopher named Marcus Cicero (106 BC to 43 BC).

He was around in Ancient Rome the same time Julius Caesar was waddling about. Although Cicero was not a mathematician, he did understand way back then something about probability and he said something very astute. In Cicero’s De Natura Deorum (On the Nature of the Gods) he argued against the unlikelihood of intelligence coming into existence accidentally.

"He who believes this may as well believe that if a great quantity of the one-and-twenty letters, composed either of gold or any other matter, were thrown upon the ground, they would fall into such order as legibly to form The Annals of Ennius. I doubt whether fortune could make a single verse of them."

So if we as humans did not come about accidentally or randomly, this has big implications. Cicero in his statement above did not believe intelligence could come about accidentally. I think many people, if they ever paused and reflected a bit, would also arrive at this same conclusion. What I think is a big shame is that most people fail to reflect on the implications of this. This is where the majority of people's spiritual journey end. So don't be a Pontius Pilate and get to the point of asking the most significant question that could ever be asked, "What is Truth?" and never exploring it. Take it to the next level. Let's take this matter of DNA and life to the next level.

So if DNA did not come about by accident, then it was created. If DNA was created, then there is a creator. Things that are created, especially beautiful and complicated things, are created for purpose. Understand that YOU were created for PURPOSE. You are here on Earth for purpose.

Here I see it fitting to close with prose from a talented musician, poet, and giant slayer:

you knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well."
