God and the Art of Toy and Diecast Model Car Marketing
Signature Seven (part 2 of 2)
By Lu Su
A couple of weeks ago, we looked for the Creator's unique brush stroke that served to identify him. From my perspective, the Signature Seven mark was left on all his great works of arts. For those who are non theists (not believing in God or gods), the reoccurrence of seven in nature is something interesting, but most likely going to be dismissed as a coincidence. To me it seems VERY coincidental that philosophers and scientists whom are theists, agnostics, and atheists in these specialized fields of studies: Earth Science, Geology, Biology, Physiology, Music, Chemistry, Bio molecular Chemistry, and Physics from different time periods have made profound discoveries in which the number seven (7) is deeply rooted into the building block of their trade.
I wonder how many coincidences need to occur before the average Joe will no longer think that these events are no longer coincidences? I personally find it difficult to dismiss the reoccurrence of seven (7) in nature as a coincidence. For me a more obvious explanation is that the same artist left his signature for rational people of all different world views to find. I think the beauty of his Signature Seven mark is that you do not need to be a theist in order to see it. Leave it to someone really smart to be able to come up with a signature that is timeless (so all men can find it) and non-material (so this signature will not rot or fade with time).
Not all, but I think many people use the title "agnostic" as an excuse so they do not have to pursue Truth. For those of you who claim that you are agnostic, how many coincidences do you need before the scales tip? Or have you already thrown out the scales and declared Truth is unknowable? How old are you now? How much time do you think you have left to decide on such a grave matter? I want to remind you that the unchanging and exclusivity nature of Truth does not permit theists, agnostics, and atheists to be correct all at the same time. Unfortunately and the tragedy of it all, somebody is wrong here. From my observations about life, wrong choices tend to have bad consequences.
The title "Agnostic" sounds so cosmopolitan and so complementary. Titles are names. Names are powerful in their ability to change what position we are willing to take (e.g. far more people prefer the term pro-life over pro-abortion and freedom fighter over terrorist). The etymology of the name Agnostic is interesting. It has a Greek derivation and comes from two words. "gnosis", which in the Greek means knowledge. When you stick a "A" in front of the word, it then means the opposite. So hence the word "theist" and "a-theist" are in directly opposite (God versus without God). So that little "a" in front of the bigger word basically negates the word and means "without". So when you claim to be Agnostic, you are claiming a title of "Without Knowledge". Fortunate for agnostics that Alexander the Great's army conquered and spread Greek influence around the world. How many agnostics today would claim that title if they had to accept the Latin version of the same word? In Latin the word for a person without knowledge is an "Ignoramus". (one who is ignorant; one who does not know).
Noticeably, lacking from the long list of studies mentioned above is what I consider the ultimate study -the study of the artist himself. Something called Theology (i.e. Theos is Greek term for God and -logy is the study of). So if all of those nature related studies (i.e. Physics, Biology, Chemistry, etc..) is the study of one of the paintings the artist created. it would seem to me that studying the artist would be far more expansive and intensive. That is not to say that college level Physics or Chemistry is a cake walk -where you can just attend the lectures and skip the readings. But I would bet that if the Creator left his Signature Seven mark in works of art that we call nature, I bet if he wrote a book, his signature seven would make an appearance.
The Christian world view claims that the Bible is a collection of 66 books, written by about 40 authors, written in three different languages, written on three different continents, and took over approximately 1600 years. The Bible claims to be inspired and inerrant. This means that the Bible claims to be from God and that it is without error in everything it addresses. Wow, this is truly an incredible claim! The earlier part of the text was written in Hebrew. The latter portion of the Bible was written in Greek. And parts near the middle, particularly the book of Ezra and Daniel, was written in both Hebrew and Aramaic -The same language that this lead character in the book called The Christ spoke.
Now I think just a single appearance of the Signature Seven found in the Bible would be interesting, but unimpressive. After all, there was a Seinfeld episode where "Seven" made a single appearance; George Costanza apparently wanted to name his child to be "Seven" -as a living tribute to Mickey Mantle's number. So what I am saying is that a single appearance is not that impressive; but if seven kept appearing in every Seinfeld episode, I would think people would catch on and realize that this was not by accident -they might even start looking out for it on the next episode. So in that light, if the Signature Seven kept appearing throughout the Bible, in different books, by different authors, who spoke different languages, from all different time periods, and all of them kept using a common denominator of seven in association with God, I would say it occurred with intent and purpose.
The first part of the Bible which is called the Old Testament. The first part of the Old Testament comes from the Jewish scriptures called the Torah. As mentioned before, I have always believed great works of art often have great openings.

This opening line is far more significant than "Once upon a time" or "In a Galaxy far far away". In a single sentence, God is credited with creating time and space. Here the writer defines the boundaries in which we exist in (time in space). Interesting how we humans need both (heavens and earth) to mark passage of time and space (length width height). Do you also realize the beauty of the first sentence? The first sentence is an essay because it describes who what where when and how gets answered two lines later. Genesis 1:1
Notice that “Elohyim” which has been translated to "God" is seven characters long. The first book of the Bible is called Genesis and it happens to be seven characters long. The first sentence of the Hebrew text is seven words long. Rubbish and pure coincidence you say? Okay, let's keep looking at more coincidences. Watch how the prime number seven (7) keeps appearing.
Creation completed:
By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done. Genesis 2:2-3
Cain the first to commit murder:
But the LORD said to him, "Not so; if anyone kills Cain, he will suffer vengeance seven times over." Genesis 4:15
Noah and the Flood:
The LORD then said to Noah, "Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation. Take with you seven of every kind of clean animal, a male and its mate, and two of every kind of unclean animal, a male and its mate, and also seven of every kind of bird, male and female, to keep their various kinds alive throughout the earth. Seven days from now I will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights, and I will wipe from the face of the earth every living creature I have made." Genesis 7:1-4
Pharaoh's Dreams:
When two full years had passed, Pharaoh had a dream: He was standing by the Nile, when out of the river there came up seven cows, sleek and fat, and they grazed among the reeds. After them, seven other cows, ugly and gaunt, came up out of the Nile and stood beside those on the riverbank. And the cows that were ugly and gaunt ate up the seven sleek, fat cows. Then Pharaoh woke up. He fell asleep again and had a second dream: Seven heads of grain, healthy and good, were growing on a single stalk. After them, seven other heads of grain sprouted—thin and scorched by the east wind. The thin heads of grain swallowed up the seven healthy, full heads. Then Pharaoh woke up; it had been a dream. Genesis 41: 1-7
Punishment for Disobedience:
If after all this you will not listen to me, I will punish you for your sins seven times over. Leviticus 26:18
Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot):
On the fifteenth day of the seventh month, hold a sacred assembly and do no regular work. Celebrate a festival to the LORD for seven days. Numbers 29:12
The Year for Canceling Debts:
At the end of every seven years you must cancel debts. Deuteronomy 15:1 (Hey are there any Jewish suppliers reading this? Can I get net 7 years + 7 minutes terms?)
Israelites enter into the Promise Land:
Now Jericho was tightly shut up because of the Israelites. No one went out and no one came in. Then the LORD said to Joshua, "See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men. March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams' horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets. When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have all the people give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the people will go up, every man straight in." Joshua 6:1-5
Sampson (a Judge for Israel) and Delilah:
Having put him to sleep on her lap, she called a man to shave off the seven braids of his hair, and so began to subdue him. And his strength left him. Judges 16:19
Elisha (Jewish Prophet) heals a Naaman (Non-Jewish General):
So he went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, as the man of God had told him, and his flesh was restored and became clean like that of a young boy. 2 King 5:14
Daniel's prophecy on the arrival of the Christ:
Know and understand this: From the issuing of the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler, comes, there will be seven 'sevens,' and sixty-two 'sevens.' It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble. Daniel 9:25
Jesus Feeds the Four Thousand:
How many loaves do you have?" Jesus asked.
"Seven," they replied, "and a few small fish."
He told the crowd to sit down on the ground. Then he took the seven loaves and the fish, and when he had given thanks, he broke them and gave them to the disciples, and they in turn to the people. They all ate and were satisfied. Afterward the disciples picked up seven basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. Matthew 15:34-37
Jesus answer to a question on forgiveness:
Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, "Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?"
Jesus answered, "I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times."Matthew 18:21-22. Out of all the double digit numbers to pick, 77 seems to be very coincidental eh?
Revelations, the last book of the Bible:
John,
To the seven churches in the province of Asia:
Grace and peace to you from him who is, and who was, and who is to come, and from the seven spirits before his throne,
Revelations 1:4
The Vision John, a friend and disciple of Jesus, saw in heaven:
I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands, and among the lampstands was someone "like a son of man,"dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest. His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters. In his right hand he held seven stars, and out of his mouth came a sharp double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance. Revelations: 1:12-16
The Scroll and the Lamb:
Then one of the elders said to me, "Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals."
Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing in the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. He had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. Revelations 5: 5-6
The above are only a few incidences of the Signature Seven making an appearance in the Bible. There are far more incidences (over 250). I just happened to put down my favorite ones. Another very interesting occurrence is the number fourteen (14) and its reoccurrence in the Bible (but perhaps a subject for a different life time).
Most of the Signature Sevens found in nature (i.e. categories of smell, crystalline groups, what a water molecule looks like, what light shown through a prism looks like, periodic grouping in chemistry, etc...) were only discovered in the last few centuries. I do not believe, with perhaps the exception of music and its basic seven notes, that these early writers could have known about the seven (7) reoccurring in very building block of that science/study.
From my perspective, this Signature Seven was purposely left in nature and in the Bible for man to discover. But to discover for what purpose? For the theist, this signature provides an affirmation that God of the universe is the same God of the Bible. For the atheist, the question is moot. But the question of purpose for the agnostic, is a challenging one. Either these coincidences are never going to be explored (Truth is unknowable?) or my hope is that these coincidences are stepping stones to lead you to the Truth.
