Buick celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1953 with a limited edition Skylark crafted in grand style. Veryexpensive at $5000, the enormous 1953 Buick Skylark came with convertible top, full leather upholstery, tinted glass, electric antenna, signal-finding "Selectronic" radio and power everything. Buick also marked its 50th anniversary with its first modern V-8 engine: a 322 cubic inch power plant that enabled the car to cruise all day at 100 mph. Equipped with a sily smooth Twin-Turbine Dynaflow auto-matic transmission, this Skylark also offered "check-marked" body trim, a distinctive dip behind the doors and red, white and blue "50th anniversary" medallions on the chrome-plated wire wheels. Options included the "Weatherwarden" heating system ($67.26), easy-eye glass ($32.30) flexible spoke steering wheel ($12.27) and Foamtex seat cushions ($17.13).
