God and the Art of Toy and Diecast Marketing
Finding God From the Dark Side (intro)
By Lu Su

If you have been with me over the past few years, I wrote a series of articles on the subject of finding God. Since everyone is a bit different (e.g. you like cookies and cream, but I prefer Chunky Monkey), I've attempted to approach the subject from different angles.

Some might find God in what has already been made (the creation or what a lot of people call nature). The creativity, purpose, complexity and the specificity of design can make some come to the conclusion that there must be a God. Some of you might recall my article when I compared a cinder block to a strand of DNA or an automobile compared to the human body. The former shows intelligent design, but he later does not? Some may even find God through the simplicity of design. One scientist asked me rhetorically, "Did you know that all the physical laws of the universe can be written on a single sheet of paper?" How beautiful is that?

Speaking of beauty, some people do find God in simply how beautiful something is. The beauty found in nature, the beauty in a child's response, or unexpected beauty from a song. Last night my second son was tooling around Youtube and we watched the Susan Boyle's audition to Britains Got talent. As my wife can attest, I'm not an emotional guy, but tears actually welled up in my eyes when she delivered that song.How can something beauty come from nothing? From my perspective, if you find something beautiful, there must be a creator.

I do think that many people don't find God in the creation (nature), just because they are moving too fast. Many of us are "busy". Try to take some time to purposely slow down. Turn off that cell phone. Unplug your router. Pull the plug from media for just a day and do what the Psalmist wrote:

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.” -Psalms 46:10

Another approach was based on the intuition that God would have left some type of signature in His creation that all different types of people, no matter what time period, color, or language they spoke, would find (if they bothered to look for it). Another approach I took was to look at the fulfillment of prophecy in God's word in finding God. Only a being outside of time could fore-tell with such accuracy the events that have already occurred.

Now critical to the Gospel message is conveying what sin is, the effects of sin, and the cure (the Good News) that we Christians call Truth. No matter what century your are in, this has always been a challenge. This is probably because a good chunk of the denizens on Earth don't even acknowledge that sin exists. Sin is like a cancer. At its core, it's destructive. It destroys and obstructs purpose. People can see and acknowledge effects of cancer, but when they trace the ailment back to its source, they often don't call or diagnosis it as cancer (sin); they call sin a different name: sickness, passion, desire, a bad upbringing, temporary insanity, or even a relatively new business term called profiteering. Don't you agree if the diagnosis is wrong, the treatment is going to be off?

Then many in this world will argue that truth does not exist. Or better, truth only exists when they want it to exist. Many will attempt a slight of hand trick and argue that truth is relative. If anyone makes a statement that all truth is relative, just ask them if they are sure about their last statement. A great late 20th century example of this slight of hand maneuver was when President Bill Clinton was being grilled and was being asked some very uncomfortable questions.

The Rhodes Scholar answered with, "It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is,"

This was a very clever reply, because the word "is" is a common word used in conveying truth. Removing the word "is" (by making it relative to whatever you want) from the spoken language is akin in removing the equal sign in mathematics; it will then be very difficult to arrive at the truth of any statement or equation.

In another series of essays, I attempted to use the truth that most people will acknowledge in numbers to point some towards God. If you recall the non-theist Carl Sagan postulated that if a series of intelligent numbers were being streamed to Earth, that would constitute an outside intelligence. I agree with this thesis. Mr. Sagan used a stream of prime numbers coming from I believe the Vega star system in his fictional work of art called Contact. I took a non-fictional approach and showed how the Fibonacci sequence is constantly being streamed to us from inside our world as well as outside our world -and concluded that intelligent designer and transmitter is God.

Now, I want to take a totally different approach. Yes, some people may debate whether God, sin, and truth exists; but so far I have not encountered anyone who argues that evil does not exist. In the next series of essays, let's explore the dark side and attempt to use evil to find Luke Skywalker (I mean God).
