God and the Art of Toy and Diecast Model Car Marketing
Signature Seven (part 1 of 2)
By Lu Su
Every great artist seems to have some stylistic element about their art that identifies them. Every once in awhile you hear of some really famous artist’s painting being picked up at a garage sale for five bucks. Or even more recently in New York City a free painting picked up curb side -next to a pile of refuse which was then found to be worth about a million dollars. I have always wondered what these art curators or experts specifically look for in a painting that allows them to identify the original artist. How are they able to determine that this particular piece of work is from Picasso, Renoir or Monet? There must be something unique about the artist’s technique or artistry that serves as an identifying factor.
Suppose there was an artist that created time, space, heavens, earth, and everything that creeps on it, then I too would expect a common thread or some identifying factor(s) that would keep appearing. What common identifying factor could time, space, heaven, earth, and things that creep on it have in common? It can’t be oil on canvas. I don’t think those two came into being until after man came into being. What could be older than time? It’s got to be something very old -something very ancient. Something that was in existence before the gravitational constant of the universe was determined. Something that was already in existence before the foundations of the Earth were laid down.
C.S. Lewis, whom I believe to be one of the greatest philosophers and writers in the 20th century, makes a powerful statement that actually limits the possibilities of what an all God can do. Lewis starts by demonstrating that “almighty” does not mean that God can do anything we imagine; certain things are logical impossibilities. “You may attribute miracles to Him, but not nonsense. Just as square circles are a nonsense". This implies that even God is subject to a sensible order (i.e. a type of logic). So at this time (as a feather weight) I want to weigh in and make these bold statments: The number 7 has always been larger than the number 3. Before time came into being, these numbers existed. And way before man discovered the unique qualities of prime numbers, 3 & 7 were prime numbers before the Earth rotated around the Sun. And to remind you, my last article stated that prime numbers were the building blocks of all numbers.
Now it seems to me that in order to communicate numbers from one to another, you need words. If we are depending on Truth to steer our brief journey here on Earth (i.e. scientifically, socially, politically, religiously), it seems wise to take pause and understand the characteristics of the only two basic building blocks we have to conveying Truth. So did words and numbers precede man? Or did words and numbers come after man?
I know this seems like a bizarre question. But unbeknownst to the vast majority of people, how you answer this question actually frames your understanding of Truth. So for example, your understanding of new scientific discoveries will be greatly affected by what answer you have accepted to the above question.
It was not long ago that a majority of “educated” men had the understanding that the Earth was the center of the universe. As science and technology advanced, man realized that not all objects that lit up in the night sky were stars, but some were planets. Then after tracking the path of these planets, a contradiction arose. If the Earth was in the center of the universe, all other in the heavenly bodies (i.e. Sun, moon, stars, planets) should follow a steady path across the night sky. But the path of planets did not conform to the same path the Sun, moon, and stars took. The path planets took (and still take) through the night sky caused a direct contradiction to the belief that the Earth is in the center of the universe. Because Truth is a mutual exclusive matter (either Earth is in the center of the universe or it isn't), the scientific/religious community gave Galileo a hard time.
In a similar fashion, since Truth does not change, our theories (whether scientific or unscientific) if true, should not contradict each other. When contradictions arise, we should actually look forward in finding them, because this is the point where our understanding of Truth usually advances.
But back to the point I am trying to make about prime numbers and their significance. I believe if God is the artist of time, space, the heavens, Earth, and everything that creeps on it, then we should see a common artistic element in his creation. I believe the common thread (the identifying factor) running through his great works of art is a number; more specifically it is the prime number 7 and multiples of 7.
Why would God pick the number 7? I do not know the answer to this question. I think if it was left up to me, I would have gone with 10; because it is a lot easier to count up multiples of 10 than 7. 10 x 2163 is easy and I even can compute it in my head, but 7 x 2163, I need pen & paper, a calculator, or my friend Lydell (who has this uncanny ability to compute big numbers in his head). So where do I see this prime number 7 (and multiples of 7) manifested in God’s creation?
It takes 27 days and 7 hours for the moon to orbit the Earth. Day 7 the first quarter of the moon is seen when there is 90 degrees between the moon, earth & sun. Day 14 is a full moon and moon is on the opposite side of the earth. Just a coincidence eh? While we are on the subject of rocks, In the realm of Minerals and Geochemistry, there are seven crystal systems:

Honestly, I’m not making this up. Here is a picture of example minerals from each of the seven systems:

(Picture courtesy of http://yourgemologist.com Click the picture to read more about the seven crystal systems)
Why is a week 7 days? Who made this determination? God may have rested on the 7th day, but why should that have anything to do with how long the week is? Wouldn’t it be easier for everyone if a week was 10 days long and there were 36 weeks in a year (and just throw in 5 extra vacation days)? I know at this point, many will still argue that this frequency of 7 coming up in nature is is just coincidental or come up with some theory about man and moon worship. So let’s continue to look at more coincidences.
The moon takes just over 27 days plus 7 hours to make a trip around the earth. The human hand, one of our prime feature that distinguishes us from other animals (and allows us to be really good builders or killers) has 27 bones, the human face has 14 bones, 7 bones in the neck, and 7 bones in the ankle.
The pigeon sits on average two weeks (14 days) on her eggs. The hen sits on average three weeks (21 days) on her eggs. God’s greatest creation (woman) has a menstruation cycle that averages 28 days; ovulation typically occurs on day 14. A woman’s period has a lot to do with hormones, pheromones, and chemical changes inside her body. Why on Earth would this cycle need to correlate with a rock in the sky? The gestation period for a human baby is 280 days. For what reason would the average number of days to make a human baby be perfectly divisible by 7 & 14? Would you please just consider the possibility that the same artist was involved?
I’ve been trying to make the point that words and numbers are the building blocks that we use that allow us to convey and understand truth. So what is a fundamental building block for life? I’ll give you a hint. When scientists explore the heavens looking for life, one key building block to life that they are looking for is something called water –something the human body is mostly composed of. All living things seem to need it.
If you haven’t forgotten your high school chemistry, water is composed of one Oxygen and two Hydrogen atoms. Every wonder why snow crystals are so symmetrical?

Look at this X-ray vision image of ice. It is equivalent to a x100,000,000 magnification! Water molecules have Hexagonal symmetry. In this image Oxygen atoms are drawn as red balls and Hydrogen atoms as smaller cyan balls. All the bonds between them are drawn as white sticks in order to show the honeycomb network formed by all those molecules of H2O. So in order for the center hexagon to be complete, it requires other hexagonal molecules of water to adjoin it –so again the number 7 seems to makes another appearance in something basic to life.
I have noticed that really talented artists, like Leonardo da Vinci were not just talented in just one or two subjects –but multiple. I would think the artist that could create time, space, and life would show some promise in other fields. Let’s keep looking for this artists’ mark.
Music seems to be universal to all cultures. Almost all the songs we hear are based on a musical system of just seven major notes:

Notice that the seven notes repeat, with the eighth key a higher or lower octave of the first as you go up or down the keyboard. All other minor notes, sharps and flats, fit within the structure of the basic seven.
Our sense of smell has been classified into seven primary classes. These classes are: 1) ethereal, 2) camphoraceous, 3) musky, 4) floral, 5) minty, 6) pungent, and 7) putrid. Our nervous system integrates the responses from a number of cells to determine the identity of the primary odor stimulus being received. This is too weird. Why did scientists come up with just seven classifications of smell?. If those scientists who came up with this classification just added one more odor class like "wet dog", this Signature Seven would not have reared its head again.
Visible light is a pretty nifty invention. Not only does visible light allow you to read this article, but if you pass sunlight through a prism, it produces seven colors - the three primary colors and four secondary ones:

Chemistry also seems like a decent invention (unless you are on the receiving end of an atomic bomb). The Periodic Table of the known Elements has seven levels of periodicity:

The prime number 7 seems to be God’s signature which is found in nature, matter, energy, time and space. I’m reminded of a great quote.
"For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist."
(Colossians 1:16-17 KJV)
I know this article had to do much about nature. Take an additional few minutes to see some of this artist's works of art. Finding God in Nature. (click only if you have a high speed connection)
Now just suppose the same artist that created the above were to write a book. First of all, I would expect it to be a best seller and I would also expect his Signature Seven to be all over it. If I didn’t find it, I would be suspicious. Let’s explore this next week.
